3 Indicted in New York City Anti-Gay Attacks
NEW YORK – New York prosecutors have dropped charges against one suspect accused of taking part in anti-gay attacks in the Bronx, and a grand jury indicted three other men.
Bronx Assistant District Attorney Theresa Gottlieb asked Wednesday to have all charges against 17-year-old Dennis Piters dismissed for lack of evidence.
The three other men were indicted by a grand jury on charges including gang assault and aggravated sexual abuse.
Piters' lawyer told the New York Post that his client did not take part in the Oct. 3 attacks against two men and two teens. Attorney Fred Bittlingmaier said his client "happened to be buddies with a couple of guys.
Prosecutors say the victims were targeted by a gang.
Prosecutors also dismissed charges against three other suspects at a hearing Tuesday.
