Taylor Swift's BBMAs Performance Bit Off Beyoncé's Coachella Show, And Fans Are Livid

#Mayochella.

Beyoncé’s debut BeyHive was not here for Taylor Swift’s Billboard Music Awards performance, better known by Black Twitter as #Mayochella.

Last night was a battle of the bands at the Billboard Music Awards as Taylor Swift hit the stage to perform a couple of her fan-favorited tracks. However, it didn't take long into Swift's performance before the mega-pop country star started trending on Twitter, and it wasn't courtesy of her loyal "Swifties" fan base.

  • In typical Hive fashion, Beyoncé fans noticed that Taylor's set, equipped with a live marching band, appeared shockingly familiar to Bey's "Homecoming" Coachella show. While Bey headlined Coachella in 2018, her Homecoming Netflix documentary that went behind the scenes of the moments leading up to #Beychella recently made its debut and was met with rave reviews.

Thus, the BeyHive wasted no time making comparisons between the two performances, accusing Swift of biting off Bey and quickly hashtagging the singer's BBMA performance as #Mayochella.

  • The "Swifities" were quick to jump to Taylor’s defense afterward, arguing that "Strike the band up" is a lyric in Taylor's song "ME!" featuring Panic! at the Disco. They also pulled out receipts to show that Taylor is no newbie to having a bandstand, and is also not the first woman to use one at a show.

  • But as one true Hive member was sure to remind folks, Bey's been beating to the beat of her own drums since her Destiny’s Child days.
