Justin Bieber Wants You to Know His Tattoos All Have Meanings

From roman numerals to faded ex-girlfriends.

Justin Bieber's days as a teen sensation are over, so the fact that he's now adopted a bit of an edgier look shouldn't be all that surprising. Adding to that edge are the singer's numeous tattoos, but don't think they're all for show. The 21-year-old told GQ they all hold some sort of significance in his life.

His first tattoo was a tiny crotch-adjacent bird — yep, you read that correctly. He told the mag that it is from a children's book he used to read with his family. Specifically, it's a book about " a seagull who wanted to be more than just a seagull." He seems to have a thing for birds, as he also has an owl on his arm, which he said "signifies wisdom."

Among all of his ink, roman numerals seem to be the most prevalent. He has one set, representing his mother's birthday, and "LL" on his inner upper arm, which he explains, "is really cool." "It stands from when my head's low to lift it up," he continued. "Just to never keep your head low and just to always look for the better days."

He even has ink represetative of one of his exes, and no, it's not something subtle like an initial — it's her face. "This is my ex-girlfriend, I kinda tried to cover her face up with some shading, but people still know," he said.
