Lizzo’s Health Reset: Why She Eats Dinner at 4:59 and Ditches the Vegan Life
When Lizzo says she’s feeling “Good as Hell,” believe her—because her health journey is matching the energy.
In the Summer 2025 issue of Women’s Health, the Grammy-winning singer—real name Melissa Viviane Jefferson—gets real about what helped her hit her “weight release goal” this past January. And nope, it wasn’t just vibes or willpower alone. It was about getting honest, eating earlier, and leaving the vegan struggle meals behind.
“I was vegan for about a year, but I wasn’t doing it the right way,” she admits. “My diet was basically bread, soy, cashew cheese, and meat substitutes. I wasn’t getting the nutrients my body needed.”
After a full reset, Lizzo shifted to a protein-and-veggie-heavy menu—and saw real results. Since January 2023, she’s lowered her body fat by 16% and her BMI by 10.5 points. Her formula? Meals that are filling, flavorful, and no-nonsense.
Here’s what a day of eating looks like for Lizzo:
- Breakfast: Two scrambled eggs, chicken sausage, and a cauliflower hash brown.
- Lunch rotation: Shredded Thai chicken salad, tuna-stuffed lettuce wraps, or sliced chicken breast.
- Dinner (before 5 P.M. sharp): Turkey meatloaf, cauliflower mash, and green beans.
“I eat early because I have GERD,” she explained, referencing gastroesophageal reflux disease. “My body needs time to digest so the acid doesn’t come up when I sleep.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, GERD symptoms can include heartburn, chest pain, sour liquid rising in the throat, and trouble swallowing—none of which pair well with late-night snacking.
The new routine is less about numbers and more about peace.
“I didn’t lose weight to fit a beauty standard. I did it because I love myself and I want to feel my best,” she said.
And as always, Lizzo is making sure that self-love stays center stage—whether she’s serving vocals, looks, or a turkey meatloaf at 4:59 P.M.
