Demonstrators in Minneapolis are not giving up their cause until authorities release the video of the Jamar Clark shooting. At least 50 protesters were arrested Monday after shutting down Interstate 94 for several hours.
Protests began Sunday night after a 24-year-old African-American man was shot by a police officer early Sunday. Authorities were responding to a call about an apparent assault. Some believe Clark was handcuffed when he was shot, which has caused alarm about the truth surrounding how Clark was handled by police.
Protesters also want the identities of the officers in the case released. Two officers involved have been placed on paid leave.
Clark was shot after police say he was interfering with paramedics who were helping the victim of an assault. An officer opened fire on Clark after a struggle broke out between them, according to the Associated Press
The protesters arrested Monday were released Tuesday morning. Several demonstrators continued to protest into Tuesday. Currently, Mayor Betsy Hodges has called for a federal civil rights investigation into Clark's death. There is already a state investigation taking place.
