A prayer rally is taking place tonight (September 27th) for Austin High School Bulldogs player Jordyn Hawkins. 

The 15-year-old junior varsity player was making a tackle during a game on September 12th when he didn’t get up. Hawkins was taken off the field  on a stretcher and later diagnosed with a spinal cord injury. 

Hawkins’ mother, Deandrea Wade, told ABC13 he is “paralyzed from the shoulders down, but has some feelings in his arms and legs.”

After a week in the intensive care unit at Memorial Hermann, he was moved to the rehabilitation center within the Texas Medical Center. 

Despite the circumstances, Hawkins hasn’t lost his spirit and is determined to walk again. 

In a recorded message provided to ABC13, he said:

"Please continue to pray for my full recovery as I prepare to walk out of here."

Wade and the family are strong in their faith and believe in the power of prayer. 

The prayer rally will take place this evening, Friday from 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. on the field at Austin High School, 3434 Pheasant Creek Drive in Sugar Land, Texas.

“Just in the blink of an eye, literally, in front of my eyes, our lives have changed,” Wade said. "My biggest thing is for people to pray with us. I believe God is going to provide everything we need, but we need prayers."
