Uber Hires Former Obama DOJ Head Eric Holder to Investigate Reports of Sexual Harassment Within the Company

Many are questioning why it took so long for action to be taken.

After former Uber engineer Susan Fowler shared a revealing blog post which alleged she dealt with sexual harassment while at the company, CEO Travis Kalanick sent a company-wide email announcing that the former head of the DOJ will head an investigation into the claims.

In the memo to the company, Kalanick confirmed Uber hired former U.S. Attorney General for President Obama Eric Holder and Tammy Albarran, Holder’s partner at law firm Covington & Burling, to look into the overwhelming allegations, reported CNNTech.

“Eric Holder, former US Attorney General under President Obama, and Tammy Albarran — both partners at the leading law firm Covington & Burling — will conduct an independent review into the specific issues relating to the work place environment raised by Susan Fowler, as well as diversity and inclusion at Uber more broadly,” Kalanick said in the memo. “Joining them will be Arianna Huffington, who sits on Uber’s board, Liane Hornsey, our recently hired Chief Human Resources Officer, and Angela Padilla, our Associate General Counsel. I expect them to conduct this review in short order.”

Fowler’s story went viral and caused many people to once again boycott the company. In her post, Fowler alleged that she was propositioned for sex by a member of upper management and when she tried to file a complaint, her story went unnoticed.

  • Many people believe the actions taken by Uber are not representative of their willingness to protect women

  • Additionally, women represent less than 20 percent of Uber's employment
