You Won't Believe Who Michael Jordan Surprised On FaceTime
Michael Jordan is still out here making unforgettable plays, but this time it has absolutely nothing to do with basketball or his NASCAR team.
Jordan recently hopped on a FaceTime call to surprise Ms. Etta, a beloved former staff member from his days at Emsley A. Laney High School in Wilmington, North Carolina. Ms. Etta is currently in hospice care at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in Jordan's hometown. While she was looking back at old memories from the school, Jordan's name kept coming up, and she told staff members that she had a bucket list wish to see him again.
A social worker named Wendy tried for weeks to get in touch with the Chicago Bulls great. Just when it seemed like a long shot, Wendy's phone rang one evening from an unknown number. The voice on the other end simply asked if this was for Ms. Etta. It was Jordan.
Wendy jumped into her car, drove to the facility, and set up a video call so the two could see each other.
According to a social media post from the hospice facility, the reunion was everything you would hope for. The two spent the call laughing, reminiscing, and picking at each other, bringing the whole room to tears and giving Ms. Etta's family a memory they will keep forever.
Jordan graduated from Laney back in 1981. Long before he was winning six NBA championships and five MVP awards, he was just one of the kids Ms. Etta knew well from her time as the school's transportation coordinator.
Even though he went on to star at the University of North Carolina and become a global superstar, Jordan has never forgotten where he came from. Back in 2019, he stepped up with a $1.1 million donation to Laney High School to help fund their athletic and academic programs. Decades after leaving his hometown, he is still finding ways to show love to the people who were there from the jump.
