Gymnast Morgan Price Voted SEC Newcomer Of the Year

After making history at Fisk University, Price dominates the SEC with a Perfect 10 and a bronze medal.

The Arkansas gymnastics program continues to reach new heights, and the Gymbacks were well-represented as the SEC announced its annual awards on Wednesday. Leading the charge for the program is senior transfer Morgan Price, who was named the SEC Newcomer of the Year, a milestone for both the athlete and the university.

Price is only the second Gymback in history to receive the Newcomer of the Year honor, an award dedicated to the top athletes in their first year of SEC competition. Since arriving in Fayetteville, she has made an immediate and tremendous impact on the program and the conference. The standout has been a mainstay in the lineup, competing in every meet this season, including every vault and bars appearance, along with seven stints in the all-around.

Her season has been defined by record-breaking consistency. Price has posted season highs of 9.900 or better on vault, bars, and beam, while earning a career-high 39.675 in the all-around on Jan. 30. Her journey to the SEC is already the stuff of legends; after making history at Fisk University as a member of the first-ever HBCU gymnastics program, she has continued her trailblazing path at Arkansas.

On Feb. 20, she etched her name into the school record books by scoring the first-ever Perfect 10 on vault for the Gymbacks. The flawless mark made her one of only five known athletes in the history of the sport to score a Perfect 10 at two different universities. She also matched the school record on bars with a 9.975, becoming the first Gymback to achieve that score on the event multiple times.

Ranked consistently in the top 10 nationally on vault and bars, she has collected 15 total event and all-around titles this season. Her dominance translated seamlessly to the postseason stage at her first SEC Championships. Price opened the meet with a powerful 9.925 on vault, the second-best score of the afternoon session. The performance earned her the SEC bronze medal in the event and a spot on the All-SEC team.

Price is at the forefront of a historic haul for the program, as six different gymnasts combined for 13 total All-SEC honors this year. This mark represents the most in program history and only the second time Arkansas has reached double-digit All-SEC honors in a single season.
