Lizzo Claps Back Again at Sydney Sweeney’s Denim Campaign with New Freestyle

​​The artist returns to the controversy, using fresh bars and a viral TikTok to challenge American Eagle’s ad once more.

Lizzo is keeping the denim dialogue alive. In a new TikTok, the artist previewed a freestyle from her upcoming track, reportedly titled “I’m Goin’ In Till October,” and took another jab at the viral Sydney Sweeney x American Eagle campaign. Rapping in a denim top while washing a Porsche, she slid in a line that caught immediate attention: “No kizzy, he ain’t got no business being with me. Fat a** pretty face with the t**ties. B**ch, I got good jeans like I’m Sydney.”

That bar follows weeks of online chatter around the campaign, which featured Sweeney in head-to-toe denim next to the tagline, “My genes are blue.” The ad sparked heated reactions across social media, with some questioning the brand’s messaging and others rallying behind it. Lizzo first entered the chat in late July with a photo of herself wearing a full denim look, captioned, “My jeans are Black.”

She circled back in another TikTok video, this time stitching a clip of a right-wing pundit saying, “We’re over this woke agenda. We are over the Lizzos, we are over the Dylan Mulvaneys. If this were a 300-pound non-binary person, they would be applauding her.” The video then cuts to Lizzo posing in her version of the American Eagle setup, captioned, “Lizzo’s got good jeans.”

Last week, American Eagle released a statement that sidestepped the backlash entirely: “We continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone.”

Lizzo’s not waiting for clarity. She’s using her voice and her denim to shed light on the apparent discrimination and make her point loud and clear. She always uses her platform to call out double standards and push back when the messaging feels off. At every turn, she stands up for what she believes in.
