City Of Baton Rouge Proclaims April 4 As Flau’jae “Big 4” Johnson Day
April 4 is now Flau’jae “Big 4” Johnson Day in Baton Rouge. The LSU basketball star was officially recognized Flau’jae Johnson over the weekend in a ceremony in which Mayor-President Sid Edwards presented her with a key to the city, recognizing her years of giving back to the city where she plays.
The designation marks the culmination of four years during which Johnson has engaged with the Baton Rouge community beyond her athletic tenure at Louisiana State University. Her activities have included organizing local giveback events and participating in community-based initiatives.
Edwards cited Johnson’s combination of athletic performance, artistic contributions, and leadership as the primary motivation for the honor. He noted that the recognition serves as an acknowledgement of her impact on the local area and aims to maintain a connection between the athlete and the city in the future.
For Johnson, this marks the second time she has been awarded a key to a city; she previously received one from her hometown of Savannah, Georgia, in 2018. Johnson saidthat the recognition holds personal significance due to the support she has received from the community throughout her collegiate career.
Johnson intends for the annual April 4 celebration to center on themes of community engagement, youth inspiration, and local service. The proclamation establishes a framework for future initiatives aimed at fostering continued interaction between the athlete and the city’s residents.
