Tristan Thompson Raises Eyebrows After Praising President Trump
NBA veteran Tristan Thompson is sharing his perspective on the current political landscape, specifically voicing support for President Donald Trump’s immigration policies.
The 2016 NBA champion, who was born in Canada and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2020, appeared on "The Katie Miller Podcast" to discuss the administration's recent crackdown on illegal immigration. As a free agent who most recently played for the Cleveland Cavaliers, he noted that his views are shaped by his personal journey and the experiences of his family members.
"What President Trump is doing, first of all, I love what he’s done so far for our country," Thompson stated during the interview. "I think he’s helped our country a lot. In terms of where he stands with [immigration]... I believe for those that do the thing the right way and get the papers, I think they should be taken care of first and foremost."
The 35-year-old offered a detailed take on the issue, acknowledging the complexities for those who find themselves in "in-between states" during the legal process. While he supports the administration's hardline stance, he advocated for a "case-by-case" approach to ensure that the system remains fair to individuals.
His comments come alongside a recent visit to the White House on March 26, where he met with Vice President JD Vance. He shared several photos of the visit on Snapchat, including one with the Vice President captioned, “I JUST MET JD VANCE!!!!” and another shaking hands with Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. During his time in Washington D.C., he also spoke in the White House press briefing room regarding Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) protections for collegiate athletes, stressing the importance of preparing student-athletes for life after sports.
