‘The Ms. Pat Show’: But the Kid is Not His Son

In a classic sitcom move, season 4 opens with an at-home birth during a blizzard.

"The Ms. Pat Show" has always embraced classic sitcom tropes, albeit with more colorful language. The season premiere opens with Pat fantasizing about the perfect sitcom family, shot in black and white with all the ladies in flare dresses and ponytails. That fantasy is disrupted when Junebug arrives with his pregnant white girlfriend, Allison. Pat is enraged, even though the kid isn't Junebug's. Also, Allison's parents kicked her out; she needs a place to stay, and now there's a blizzard outside.

Amid everyone trying to talk Junebug out of standing by Allison, her water breaks. With Pat and Denise's help (not so much Junebug; he passes out), Allison gives birth on the Carson family sofa. In the end, Pat officially kicks Junebug out of the house.

Funniest exchange

Denise tries to convince Junebug of his commitment to Allison, based on Pat being a teen parent.

Denise: "Now this is gonna be a hell of a lot harder than you think. I had a front row seat to all the things your momma went through and it scared me off babies for life. "

Junebug: "Hmm, that's weird"

Denise: "What's weird?"

Junebug: "Well momma always says the reason you don't have any babies is because you can't keep a man."

Denise: "I can keep a man, Junebug! The real question is, can a man keep me? And the answer is, "F—- you, lil' boy!"

Standout scene

Allison is terrified of giving birth and asks Pat to hold her hand. "I got you," Pat assures her, even after spending the first act calling Allison everything but a child of God.

Sitcoms have always been built on maintaining the status quo. Too many changes throw off the balance, so we're not convinced Junebug is out of the house for good.
