Where to Find a PlayStation 5

Sony’s highly coveted PlayStation 5 came out more than a year ago, but the gaming console is still one of the more difficult items to score this holiday season. The pandemic-induced global chip shortage and an increased demand for the PS5 and other electronics mean that shoppers hoping to find this limited-supply gaming system will need to stay up to date on restocks if they want any chance at nabbing the next-gen console ahead of the holidays.

Of course, you can always resort to joining a premium shopping subscription service to skip the long line of gamers and gifters waiting to get their hands on a PS5. Many retailers are using the console’s high demand to sell memberships to their new premium shopping subscription services. One of Best Buy’s most recent restocks was limited to customers with Best Buy Totaltech Memberships -- a service that costs $200 per year and includes benefits including free, two-day shipping and two-year product protection for all purchases.

Walmart ran a similar deal during their latest PS5 drop, limiting access to Walmart+ members, who also receive early access to Black Friday deals, free two-day shipping, prescription drug discounts and more for $98 per year. (You could also sign up for Walmart+ for $13 a month and then cancel once you get your PS5.)

Even GameStop has a premium membership option that allows you to skip the line for the PS5: PowerUp Rewards Pro. For $15 a year, with a $10 reward upon signing up, members receive a $5 credit to spend every month and get 2% back in rewards on every purchase. It’s worth noting that GameStop releases much of its PS5 stock as bundles, so you may be forced to pick up a couple hundred dollars’ worth of additional accessories and games alongside your console purchase.

Where to Check PS5 Restock

But if you’re trying to score a PS5 at the $500 MSRP, don’t lose hope. With semi-regular weekly restocks, there’s definitely still time to score a PS5 at Best Buy, Walmart, Target or GameStop for the holiday season, without paying for a premium membership somewhere. It starts with dedication, commitment and tapping those "check stock now" links as often as possible.
