'Never Thought I'd Miss George W.': People Rally Behind Jenna Bush Hager's Reminder Her Father Denounced Islamophobia After 9/11

The former first daughter tweeted "this is not the America I know."

Former first daughter Jenna Bush Hager decided to use her platform to speak out against the actions taken by President Donald Trump to suspend immigration from Muslim-majority countries. Not only did the NBC correspondent tweet out her disagreement, but she also sent out the compassionate words of her father, former President George W. Bush, from a speech given right after 9/11.

In 2001, George W. Bush delivered a speech at the Islamic Center of Washington, D.C., following the 9/11 attacks. In the speech, Jenna’s father said, "Islam is peace.” He added that Muslims "make an incredibly valuable contribution to our country" and called for them to be "treated with respect."

  • Jenna attached her father's speech in a tweet that called for 'acceptance and love'

  • Many people from both sides of the aisle applauded the former first daughter's words

  • Many even commented that Trump has done the impossible and made them miss George W. Bush
