'Never Thought I'd Miss George W.': People Rally Behind Jenna Bush Hager's Reminder Her Father Denounced Islamophobia After 9/11
The former first daughter tweeted "this is not the America I know."
Former first daughter Jenna Bush Hager decided to use her platform to speak out against the actions taken by President Donald Trump to suspend immigration from Muslim-majority countries. Not only did the NBC correspondent tweet out her disagreement, but she also sent out the compassionate words of her father, former President George W. Bush, from a speech given right after 9/11.
In 2001, George W. Bush delivered a speech at the Islamic Center of Washington, D.C., following the 9/11 attacks. In the speech, Jenna’s father said, "Islam is peace.” He added that Muslims "make an incredibly valuable contribution to our country" and called for them to be "treated with respect."
Jenna attached her father's speech in a tweet that called for 'acceptance and love'
Many people from both sides of the aisle applauded the former first daughter's words
Many even commented that Trump has done the impossible and made them miss George W. Bush
