The Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity at the University of Mississippi has shut down after the chapter's members were suspected of tying a noose around the statue of James Meredith, the first African-American to enroll in the school.
The noose tying incident in February was not the sole motivator behind the chapter being closed, the fraternity said in a statement released Thursday.

"The decision is not a result of any individual incident, but a response to newly discovered, ongoing behavior that includes incidents of hazing, underage drinking, alcohol abuse, and failure to comply with the university and fraternity's codes of conduct," Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity wrote.
The three members who are suspected of acting out the crime have already been kicked out of the fraternity. Their names have not been released to the public.

Following the incident, the fraternity was suspended and was under investigation by the FBI. The review is still ongoing, according to Ole Miss spokesman Tom Eppes.
