[Look] Something In This Liquor: Would You Do What These Three Women Did To Stop A Rapist In His Tracks?
You don't always have to go to your multiplex to see a superhero in action.
While having dinner at the popular restaurant FIG in Santa Monica, California, Sonia Ulrich, Marla Saltzer, and Monica Kenyon noticed a man put what they believed was a date rape drug into a woman's drink. They jumped into action, and saved the woman from a potentially devastating situation.
Sonia recounted the incredible story in a Facebook post that has gone viral, garnering over 88,000 shares. The three young women worked as a team to stop the potential rapist in his tracks: Monica noticed the man slip something into his date's beverage when she wasn't looking, and Sonia raced to the bathroom to alert the woman. She waited by the bathroom sink until the woman exited her stall. "Hey! Um, this is kind of weird, but uh, we saw the guy you were with put something in your drink," Sonia recalls telling the woman.
Sonia continues to explain that the two spoke for a while in the bathroom and at one point Sonia asked, "How well do you know this guy?" Expecting to hear that the two had just met, but to her surprise the victim responded, "He's one of my best friends," and that they had known each other for a year and a half.
The three heroines tried to get the manager involved but he said that because he had not seen the incident himself, he could not help them.
"The poor woman had to sit through 40 more minutes, sitting across from 'one of her best friends' knowing that he was trying to drug her," Sonia wrote on her Facebook. "Marla noticed him several times chinking his glass to hers to get her to drink. She played it cool." She added, "I was going through fantasies of walking up and demanding he drink the tainted glass of wine."
The manager then came and told the man and woman that their computers were down and there would be a slight delay in the bill. That, however, was a diversion, and soon after Santa Monica police officers came in and took the man away, who allegedly followed them without hesitation.
Sonia wrote, "The head of security came by and said that because we notified them immediately, they were able to go back and review the footage from the security camera. They got him on tape. They had proof of him drugging this girl."
As for the man, 25-year-old Michael Hsu has been charged in connection with two felonies, including administering a drug with the intent to commit a felony, and intent to commit rape. He is being held in lieu of $1 million bail. Lt. Saul Rodriguez thanked the women. "We very much appreciate the independent witnesses who could have prevented a serious crime from taking place," he said.
Several patrons came up to the women and thanked them for speaking out.
How's that for women having each other’s back?
