Hip Hop Awards 2022: Some of the Illest Tracks from Nas’ Award-Nominated Album ‘King’s Disease II’

The Queens native is up for several nominations, including 'Hip Hop Album of the Year'.

Legendary rapper Nas is nominated for several awards at the 2022 BET Hip Hop Award, including “Impact Track” and one of the night’s biggest honors, “Album of the Year.” Ahead of this year’s celebration of hip hop music and culture, hosted by legendary rapper Fat Joe, we’re revisiting some of the notable tracks from Nas’s thirteenth studio album, King Disease II.

The emcee’s latest musical release received high praise for records such as “Nobody,” which featured a rare performance from Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Ms. Lauryn Hill.  Check out our top three, and don’t forget to tune into the 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards airing Tuesday, October 4, at 9 PM ET/PT on BET.

  • “Rare”

“Rare” is the lead single from Nas’ acclaimed fourteenth studio album King Disease II. The legendary emcee co-wrote the track with fellow Hip Hop Awards nominee Hitboy and multi-platinum Producer Corbett on production. The song finds the Queens, NY, native rapping about the attributes that set him apart from most emcee’s in the industry.  There’s truth behind the emcee’s bars, as not many hold the talent of storytelling and produce the several street anthems Nas has contributed to hip hop.

  • ‘Nobody’ feat. Ms. Lauryn Hill

In 1996, Nas and Ms. Lauryn Hill blew away hip-hop fans after releasing their iconic record "If I Ruled the World (Imagine That).” They reunited nearly 15 years later, and much like their initial collaboration, it received critical acclaim. The song featured a rare rap performance by Ms. Hill, who sang in their previous duet. Hit-Boy produced the song, and in 2021, it was named one of former President Barack Obama's favorite songs of the year. The track was also nominated for the “Impact Award” at this year’s hip hop music and culture celebration.

  • ‘Brunch on Sundays’ feat. Blxst

“Brunch On Sundays” is another notable track from Nas’s latest musical release, which features vocals from Hip Hop Awards “Best Breakthrough Hip Hop Artist ” nominee, Blxst. The music video, which portrays the essence of having brunch on Sunday, was directed by Omar Jones. The visual features cameos from several celebrities, Cordae, Swizz Beatz, Hit-Boy, Lil Rel Howery, and many more.
