Black Filmmakers Take Over Twitter for Rebel-A-Thon

Ava DuVernay is joined by over forty directors of color for social media discussion.

Ava DuVernay has unofficially been leading the charge to bring women and filmmakers of color to the forefront, and today she's joined by over 40 notable directors for an unprecedented Twitter takeover.
Gina Prince-Bythewood, Tyler Perry, Kasi Lemmons, John Singleton and many more bold-faced names will take turns at the helm of the #ARRAY handle to share thoughts and answer questions, all with the aim of embracing diversity in cinema. Even Oprah Winfrey couldn't help but get in on the action. "So is this a conversation for just directors?" the media mogul tweeted her friends DuVernay and Perry. "Feeling left out."

Among the insights shared so far: "Writers' room on #ADifferentWorld was insane! Run by Black women. A perfect start to my career," shared Bythewood. Euzhan Palcy revealed, "Robert Redford really helped me as a filmmaker. I didn't want to go to Hollywood & he put me on a plane & sent me to Warner Bros."
ReBecca Theodore gave a special shout out to David Oyelowo for actively seeking out female filmmakers to work with, while Malcolm D. Lee shared this pearl of wisdom: "Never give up. It happens when it's supposed to happen. Have a clear vision and stick to it, but get the right collaborators."
