This Teen Received an Outpouring of Love After She Was Told Same Sex Couples Aren't Allowed at Prom
A school counselor suggested Paula Goodgame have a boy accompany her instead.
the 17-year-old is a junior at St. Petersburg Catholic High School in St. Petersburg, Florida
She and her girlfriend, Anjali Persad, have been excitedly preparing to attend Paula's prom
However, Paula received a message from her school counselor informing her that same-sex couples were not allowed to go to the prom
"I took the response as a huge surprise because of how rude it was," Paula told Buzzfeed. "Especially because it was coming from someone I'm supposed to confide in."

Paula posted the email to Twitter and it immediately went viral
Many were taken aback by the outdated and suggestive homophobia present in the email

Paula's experience resonated so deeply that several strangers sent emails to her school and administrators condemning them for their bigotry
The couple also received an overwhelming amount of general support
Paula and Anjali were overwhelmed with the love and support their story has received
"I really love all the love and support we've received since the tweet blew up. It's been really amazing watching the LGBT community stick up for each other," Persad told Buzzfeed. "I hope that all other LGBT students in our situation can find courage to stand up for themselves and for others so we can find equality for all."
