See What Michelle Obama Had to Say About White House Fashion Double Standards

Being the most stylish first lady is a lot of pressure.

First ladies have a lot of duties, including but not limited to advocating on behalf of special issues, choosing china patterns for dinners, and providing emotional support to the POTUS. (At least that's what Scandal would have us believe.) An unofficial duty specific to the FLOTUS is looking the part.

Michelle Obama expanded the scope of first lady fashion by often choosing to wear (and therefore support) American designers. This duty, however, was not expected of Barack.

In fact, Michelle revealed that he wore the same tux and shoes to every event in his eight years at the helm of our country. At Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference, Michelle spoke on the double standard.

"Now, people take pictures of the shoes I wear, the bracelets, the necklace — they didn't comment that for eight years he wore the same tux, same shoes," she said. "And he was proud of it, too. He's like, 'Mmm, I'm ready. I'm ready in 10 minutes. How long did it take you?' I'm like, 'Get out of here.'"

Although this double standard is unfair and gender-based, we must admit — we loved seeing Michelle slay a look at functions.

Now that she's no longer serving in an official capacity, she's returned to flowing, affordable basics and even the occasional display of natural hair. No matter what look she chooses, we love her all the same!
