Michael B. Jordan, Danai Gurira, Jay-Z Are Already Winners At The 2019 NAACP Image Awards
The 50th NAACP Image Awards is slated to air at 9 pm EST on TV One this evening (March 30), however some of the winners have already been announced.
Jay-Z will be the recipient of the President’s Award, which according to a press release, is given “in recognition of a special achievement and distinguished public service.” Past recipients include Danny Glover, Spike Lee, Lauryn Hill, Ella Fitzgerald, and John Legend, among others.
Regarding hardware for acting in movies and television, Michael B. Jordan has been announced as the winner of Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for Black Panther. Danai Gurira won for Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture also for the same film. Lynn Whitfield will take home the award for Supporting Actress in a Drama for Greenleaf. Marsai Martin won for Performance by a Youth in a Series and Supporting Actress in a Comedy for her role in Black-ish.
Aside from entertainment, Maxine Waters will take home the hardware for this year’s Chairman’s Award, which is given to those, “who demonstrate exemplary public service and use their distinct platforms to create agents of change.” The California Representative is the first woman and first African-American to hold the Chair’s gavel of the House Financial Services Committee.
The 50th NAACP Image Awards honors entertainers and writers of color
