Condoleezza Rice Reportedly on Short List as Romney's VP

A report says Condoleezza Rice is a frontrunner in Mitt Romney's search for a vice presidential running mate.

If the Druge Report's story published on Thursday night has any legs, then Mitt Romney has all but chosen former United States Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice as his running mate in his presidential run. While Rice said in June that she would turn Romney down if he offered her the position, whispers continue to grow that she is on the top of Romney's list and the Republican presidential candidate will make a formal announcement "in coming weeks."
The Drudge Report writes:

It was Condi who received two standing ovations at Romney's Utah retreat a few weeks ago, and everyone left with her name on their lips.

Rice made an extended argument for American leadership in the world.

In recent days, she emailed supporters:

"2012 is perhaps a turning point for the United States."

"The upcoming elections loom as one of the most important in my lifetime," she warned. "I'm very often asked to speak about our current foreign policy and the challenges that lie before us. However, we, as a country, are not going to be able to address any of those international challenges unless we first get our domestic house in order."
If the rumors are true, it would be an interesting meeting of the minds for the two political heavyweights. Romney has gotten plenty of heat for his anti-abortion stance from conservatives and democrats alike, a position that would inevitably cause friction with Rice, who is famously pro-choice. A conservative political strategist and currently a professor at Stanford University, she served as secretary of state under President George W. Bush.
