With ex-wife Tameka Raymond gearing up for the premiere of VH1's Atlanta Exes, it's no surprise that Usher has been asked about his relationship with the stylist and how he felt about their marriage and divorce. Despite the nasty divorce and custody battle over their two sons, Usher told O Magazine that getting married at 28-years-old was his "best mistake."
"Most people probably think I regret it because I ended up getting divorced, but it helped me learn that sometimes I think I know more than I actually do," he said.
It's nice to hear that now that the air has cleared the two can be civil to one another. In her introduction video for the new reality TV series, Raymond also spoke fondly of how the two met and connected and how their marriage dissolved under the pressures of his fame.
"For me, my life changed a lot in being married to him. I had to kind of be a little more conscious and cognizant of things that I did, that I said, that I tweeted, that I ate because there was just a lot of pressure, a lot of image concerns. You set aside a lot of what you want to do personally and put it on the back-burner to be there and be the backbone for your mate. Your travel schedule is so inconsistent and you're kind of all over in this place and that place," she said.
In his interview with O Magazine, Usher also opened up about his other pleasures, like his best family tradition (reunions), the best piece of advice he ever received (from James Brown) and his best recipe.
"Tuscan egg toast — basically a fancier version of eggs in a basket — that I make for my two sons on their birthdays. I cut out the center of a slice of bread, fry an egg in the middle, then drizzle it with truffle oil and sprinkle with herbes de Provence and salt and pepper," Usher said.
