Successful Surgeon Tragically Killed in Murder-Suicide by Her Husband During Standoff With Police

Sherilyn Burroughs's family received terrifying warning messages before her death.

Early this week, employees of Houston Methodist Hospital received tragic news on Monday regarding one of the leading transplant surgeons at the facility. Doctors and nurses were informed that Dr. Sherilyn Burroughs was killed by her husband, who soon after took his own life during a standoff with a SWAT team.

On Sunday afternoon in Richmond, Texas, 60-year-old Daniel Burroughs barricaded himself in his home with his wife. Once police were eventually able to force their way into the home, they heard a single gunshot. They later found Daniel with a shotgun wound to the head, according to KPRC.

Before taking his own life, Daniel informed detectives that their 4-year-old daughter was with her grandparents.

“What we have is a husband-wife situation. It looks like he took her life sometime Saturday evening and then died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound today,” Detective David Williams told KPRC.

Sherilyn's family grew worried about her safety after they received a disturbing message from Daniel on Sunday morning.

“It was just some comments about that he was going to harm his wife or that he may already have done so,” detective Williams said.

After detectives were able to examine the home, they found Sherilyn dead in the bathroom. Although some believe she was killed during the standoff, investigators said they have reason to believe she was killed the night before. The couple’s daughter remains with relatives.
