Atatiana Jefferson’s Death By Fort Worth Police Officer Sparks Outrage

The family’s lawyer, Lee Merritt, said an outside agency should investigate the killing.

The Fort Worth community is outraged over the killing of 28-year-old Atatiana Jefferson, who was gunned down in her home by a police officer.

The incident took place just 30-minutes from Dallas, where ex-police officer Amber Guyger was convicted of murdering Botham Jean, who was also shot inside his home.

Now, the Jefferson family’s attorney, Lee Merritt, who also represents the Jean family, is saying an outside agency should investigate Atatiana’s death.

“We don’t think that Fort Worth police should be investigating it on their own,” he told CNN on Sunday (October 13), adding that the Jefferson family would prefer to talk with independent investigators about the shooting.

Meanwhile, the community is demanding answers and transparency about what occurred Saturday (October 12) when the young aspiring doctor was shot and killed by an officer who did not identify himself as law enforcement before opening fire.
