Marriage - Carson has apologized several times to the LGBT community for saying offensive comments such as, "a lot of people go into prison straight, and when they come out, they're gay," or using the word "gay" and "pedophile" in the same sentence.Since then, Carson has modified his stance and says he supports civil unions, but maintains his definition of marriage: "Marriage is between a man and a woman. It is a well-established, fundamental pillar of society. And no group — be they gays; it doesn’t matter what they are — they don’t get to change the definition. It’s not something that’s against gays. It’s against anybody who wants to come along and change the fundamental definitions of the pillars of society. It has significant ramifications.”(Photo:  Justin Sullivan/Getty Images)

Health Care - As a retired Johns Hopkins neurosurgeon, Carson believes health is the most valuable possession we have and therefore should “jealously protect.” He thinks the responsibility of health care should return to the patient and health care provider. According to him, the whole enterprise has been turned upside down since Obamacare, due to an increase in government involvement. He suggests having a health savings account, which patients can control. Over time, this could accumulate families large amounts of money.(Photo: Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images)

Foreign Policy - “We need leaders whose foreign policy is guided by America’s best interests, rather than their own political motives,” he says. While Carson acknowledges that America is still the pinnacle nation in the world today, he warns that many other nations have been in this place before. "We are subject to fall just like those who have come before us, so it is essential that we learn from other’s mistakes.“We need to have a foreign policy that is proactive in safeguarding our interests and not reactive to events unfolding around the globe that affect our security. Our friends and allies need to know that we can be counted on when they are in jeopardy or their security is threatened. We must have a foreign policy that is rooted in those ideas that have made us the envy of all freedom-loving people around the globe."(Photo: Justin Sullivan/Getty Images)
