Kidney Needed - MC Breed is currently in critical condition due to kidney failure. The rapper, born Eric Breed, was playing a game of pickup basketball last Friday when he collapsed and fell unconscious. Breed, 36, is in serious need of a kidney transplant and is seeking a donor to help save his life.

Dead at 74 - Longtime Nation of Islam leader Elijah Muhammad's son has died. His nephew said that Imam Warith Deen Mohammed, who was born Wallace D. Muhammad, died at his home in Markham, Ill., Tuesday. He was 74. The cause of death was heart disease.

Not Interested - It seems everyone wants a piece of the Republican’s vice presidential pick – except Oprah. The daytime queen of gab reportedly said she’s not interested in having Sarah Palin appear on her show until after the election. Her decision has stirred up a ruckus with some Republicans who are now boycotting her.

Be Out - Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick has a move-out date. It's Sept. 18, the same day he’s supposed to leave City Hall. Officials say Kilpatrick and family must be out of the mayor's mansion by midnight. City Council President Ken Cockrel Jr. takes over as mayor the next day. Kilpatrick resigned last week as part of a plea deal.

More Blacks Please - If you go by the looks of the U.S. Foreign Service, you wouldn't know Black Americans are part of this country, says Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. Rice says the United States needs a more diverse diplomatic corps if it's going to promote "that multi-ethnic democracies can work."

Don't Tase Me - A city study says Houston Police officers have used Tasers more on Black suspects than any other group of individuals. Of the more than 1,400 uses of Tasers by officers between December 2004 and June 2007, nearly 70 percent were directed at Black suspects.

Custody Beef - 50 Cent and his ex-girlfriend, Shaniqua Tompkins, have been fighting in court for months over who gets to spend time when with their son, Marquise. For now, a family court judge has granted 50 visitation rights every other weekend until after the trial.

Done Deal - Star Jones and Al Reynolds are officially free of each other. The two reached a last-minute settlement Tuesday, moments before they were set to appear in court. Reynolds was said to be upset about his cut for playing hubby to Jones – which left him with “basically nothing,” sources said.

Going to Trial - Akon is going to stand trial on charges he tossed a fan offstage at a concert in New York last summer. Akon, born Aliaune Thiam, appeared in court last week and asked the judge for a jury trial. That trial is scheduled to begin Dec. 1.

Threatening to Sue - Ciara is apparently ready to take VIBE to court. The singer is accusing the magazine of airbrushing the cover to make her appear nude. Sources say the magazine did so in an attempt to gain additional publicity for the issue.

Fight Pic'ed - Gary Coleman tried to punch a fan and ram his truck into him, according to a TV station. Coleman was reportedly bowling with his family when a pushy fan approached him and asked to take a photo. Coleman said, "No." After an argument with the fan, Coleman jumped in his truck and accidentally bumped the "reckless" fan who was running around the vehicle.

Dropped Again - Madame Butterfly is said to be unhappy with entertainment industry guru Benny Medina. Mariah apparently heard rumors that Medina was courting her rival and his former client, Jennifer Lopez, again, so she gave him the boot. Medina denies the rumors. Baby Mama Drama - Damon Dash is sick of his baby's mama holding their son, Damon Dash II, a.k.a. "Boogie,” hostage, so he's reportedly having to haul her to court so he can see his son. Boogie went to visit his mother last week at her Long Island home and has yet to return to daddy’s digs in Manhattan. Dame has sole legal custody of his son.

Class Act - Barack Obama took his daughters by the hand and led them to classes for their first day of school this week. Kennedy Center Honor - Morgan Freeman is among this year's recipients of the Kennedy Center Honors. Center Chairman Stephen Schwarzman says Freeman is "one of the most respected performers" in U.S. cinema history and that his name "is synonymous with great screen acting."

Congressional Honor - Stevie Wonder is being honored by the Library of Congress. The Motown legend is scheduled to receive the second Gershwin Prize for Popular Song in February. The award recognizes a musician's lifetime of work.

Helping Haiti - Wyclef Jean has launched what he calls the "Haiti Storm Relief Fund" to provide food, water, tents and other supplies to nonprofit groups working to respond to the floods caused by a number of storms that have battered the island. The storms have left more than 500 dead and affected more than a half -million people.
