Salt's Secrets - Cheryl Wray, better known as “Salt” from the legendary hip-hop trio, Salt-n-Pepa, has survived the celeb machine and come out on the other side a better, more spiritual wife and mother. Along with her beauty regimen and diet, she’s relinquished her tips to maintaining sanity in a hectic, all-consuming world.

Face Forward - I just discovered an independent line that was put together by a Black female doctor named Dr. Marcy L. Street. It’s called Doctor’s Approach. I use her acne products because sometimes I have break outs. She has a Refreshing Toner Skin Treatment, Alpha Hydroxy / Beta Hydroxy Gel Skin Treatment, and a Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser. I also use their Light Moisturizing Sunblock SPF 36.

Turn Back Time - Once a month, I get a regular facial with extractions. Now that I’m a mature woman, I get one of the Bliss “age-less” facials. Me, my mom and my daughter just had a whole day of facials and massages.

A Tressy Situation - For my hair, I use Garnier Fructis Fortifying shampoo and conditioner. I don’t have a perm; I just blow-dry and straighten it with the CHI flatiron. I wear it in a ponytail for my running around. I do my own hair. I am not a beauty salon girl. I hate waiting so I had to become a master. You could have a 2pm appointment and not hit the chair until 4pm! If I need something special done, normally, I’ll have my hair dresser come to my house.

Rock It Like RiRi - The '80s were definitely ugly. When I look back at the Salt-n-Pepa pictures, I think, ‘What were we doing?’ Rihanna’s rocking some of the cuts we used to wear. She’s doing some of those old Salt-n-Pepa hairstyles and I like it on her. It’s very cute.

A Reach Back - Today, I would rock the asymmetrical hairstyle. I would do something really edgy with it. Non '80s, though! The cut would probably be somewhere in between the '80s and now.

Mac Maven - I’m a MAC girl. My makeup artist, Elena George, has been using it for years. I’m familiar with the line so it’s easier for me to use. They have a new powder that’s like a base, so you don’t have to use any cream foundation. That’s my everyday wear and it withstands heat. I like a natural look. I’m a ‘less is more’ girl.

Follow the Rules - The other day I put on a shirt and a little of my belly was showing. I talked to my daughter and said, ‘Why does this look so silly?’ I’m in shape and I‘m healthy. I looked great, but as you get older, less is more. You should look more refined. It enhances your age when you have too many bells and whistles.

The Right Path - I walk in the morning. Some people just can’t do the whole workout thing. At least walk – it wakes you up. I praise God while I walk, so I do a two in one! I exercise both my physical and spiritual bodies. I get fresh air and it keeps me in a positive place.

Press Play - I’m a tape girl. I have tons of exercise tapes going all the way back to Jane Fonda when I was a teenager. Right now, I’m doing p90x. I love their yoga tape. It combines sun salutations, stretch, balance and yoga belly 7. When you’re done, you feel like you’ve had a day at the spa. Very refreshed.
