Team Owners Behaving Badly

Questionable photos of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones surface.

Questionable Photos of Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones Surface - Compromising photos of Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones with younger women recently hit the net. One shot shows Jones hugging a woman tight, seemingly copping a feel of her breasts, while another has a woman rubbing her face onto his crotch. Allegedly the photos were taken in an attempt to extort the Cowboys owner, but still, with so much to lose, Jones shouldn't have even put himself in that compromising position. And Jones is far from the first sports team owner to find controversy. Take a look at other team owners who have acted up.  (Photo: Gerald Herbert/AP Photo)

WORST: Donald Sterling's Racist Rant - Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling shocked the world when audio recordings of him making some extremely racist comments were leaked by his rumored lover V. Stiviano. If that wasn't bad enough, Sterling's adamant refusal to step down as owner and his public war with his estranged wife managed to steal the thunder from the NBA Finals. Sterling was finally forced out over the summer to make way for new owner Steve Balmer.(Photo: AP Photo/Danny Moloshok, File)

Donald Sterling - When a full audio recording of Donald Sterling hit the net in April, shock and outrage followed. The then-Los Angeles Clippers owner could be heard in a recorded conversation with then-confidant V. Stiviano making racist remarks against African-Americans and bashing her for taking a picture with Magic Johnson. Following a prompt NBA investigation, league commissioner Adam Silver banned Sterling for life and fined him a maximum $2.5 million. Weeks ago, a judge denied Sterling's attempt to block wife Shelly Sterling's $2 billion sale of the Clippers to ex-Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. Colts Owner Jim Irsay Makes First Appearance Since Arrest - Making his first public appearance since being arrested in March for DUI and subsequently entering rehab, Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay told reporters that it “feels good to be back” on Tuesday. "I haven't been in a coma or anything like that," Irsay told USA Today, before attending an owners meeting and attempting to land a Super Bowl in Indianapolis. "I've been clued into everything that's been going on the last few months. It's good to be at this meeting, really kind of focus on the Super Bowl bid. I'm really not going to talk about any personal medical issues or that sort of thing, but just grateful to be back, and certainly have a lot of appreciation for the support I've received. I'm all in.” (Photo: Michael Conroy/AP Photo, File)

George Steinbrenner - Late New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner was known for ruling with an iron fist during his tenure at the helm of the Bronx Bombers. That's why they called him "The Boss." Ex-Yankees manager Billy Martin and former pinstripe slugger Dave Winfield were just two of many who felt Steinbrenner's wrath. Steinbrenner infamously hired and fired Martin a total of five times during an icy relationship. His dealings with former Yankee slugger Winfield were also notorious, as Steinbrenner reportedly was irked over the fact that Winfield exercised a "cost of living" stipulation to raise the value of his contract. "The Boss" tried to trade Winfield, but at the time, the slugger had the right to veto any such transaction. He even went as far as paying a gambler to get dirt on Winfield. Worst behavior! Still, with Stei...

Mark Cuban - Mark Cuban is easily one of the best owners in sports today. However, sometimes the Dallas Mavericks owner can be too hands-on. Since the he purchased the Mavs in January 2000, Cuban has been fined 20 times by the NBA. Fourteen of those fines came as a result of him either criticizing officials or interacting with them in inappropriate ways. Altogether, Cuban has amassed $1.9 million in league fines and $1.9 million more if you count the matching donations to charities he made. We're sure the billionaire slept well at night.(Photo: Ronald Martinez/Getty Images)

Al Davis - Late Raiders owner Al Davis was a rebel — and that's precisely what people either loved or loathed about him. Despite the good that he did — like being the first NFL owner to hire an African-American head coach — Davis controversially moved the Raiders out of Oakland to Los Angeles and then back to Oakland. He also controversially benched former Raiders Super Bowl MVP Marcus Allen over contract disputes before releasing him in 1992 and insisted on drafting quarterback JaMarcus Russell, who's largely considered as the biggest flop in NFL Draft history.(Photo: Scott Anger, File/SP Photo)

James Dolan - Being backed by gobs of money has enabled James Dolan to make some peculiar choices as the owner of the New York Knicks. Let's see...there's the fact that Dolan, for whatever reason, has never given former Knick great Patrick Ewing a shot to coach — even as an assistant. He also signed coaching legend Larry Brown to a five-year, $50 million in 2005 and then axed him after one season and gave Isiah Thomas a contract extension despite the Knicks falling out of contention under his guidance. He also decided to keep Thomas despite him facing a sexual harrassment lawsuit from a Madison Square Garden employee; a lawsuit he and the Garden lost. Then there's all his safeguarding media policies, which include him rarely making himself available to the media. (Photo: Brad Barket/Getty Images)

Redskins Appeal U.S. Patent Office's Trademark Decision - Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder just won't let go of his team's controversial nickname. The NFL franchise announced Thursday that they will be appealing the ruling by the United States Patent and Trademark Office to cancel the Redskins official trademark registration. Snyder has defended the nickname through the years, despite heavy criticism and pleads to rename it.walks the sidelines prior to the start of a preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium on August 25, 2011 in Baltimore, Maryland. Dan Snyder - Despite years of Native American groups and recently even Hillary Clinton imploring that the Washington Redskins change their nickname, the franchise's owner Dan Snyder hasn't budged. Instead, he's spent the last few years reasoning why the name should stay. Just give it up, Dan.(Photo: Rob Carr/Getty Images)

Dan Gilbert - There's no doubt that LeBron James returning back home to the Cleveland Cavaliers is a great story. We like the fact that King James and Cavs owner Dan Gilbert sat down and ironed out their differences. But it's hard to completely forget that open letter Gilbert penned about LeBron in 2010 when James skipped town to join the Miami Heat. (Photo: Tony Dejak/AP Photo)
