Aretha Day - Two days after Aretha Franklin recorded her no.1 record, “Respect,” Aretha Franklin Day is declared in the singer’s hometown, Detroit on February 16, 1967.

Destiny's Child - Destiny’s Child released their self-titled debut album on February 17, 1998. The LP produced a hit in “No, No, No Part 2” featuring Wyclef and was certified platinum. The group was initially comprised of Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland, LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson. Luckett and Roberson were replaced by Michelle Williams and Farrah Franklin midway through the second album. Franklin later dropped out.

Lil Wayne Sued - On February 17, 2009, Lil Wayne was hit with a 1.3 million lawsuit for cancelling NY shows. Wayne had vowed not to perform in New York after getting arrested for marijuana and gun possession. The arrest later lead to him spending eight months in Rikers Island.

R.Kelly - Roughly a year after R. Kelly’s sex tape scandal, which allegedly pictured the singer having sex with an underage girl, the R released <em>The Chocolate Factory</em> on February 18, 2003. The album was instant classic and sold 3 million copies.
