The Evolution of Kanye West - Even back then, Yeezy was already known for his outspoken rants in his interviews and onstage and for veering off script at award shows. But no one expected Kanye to speak out like he did at a telethon benefitting victims of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, just days after Late Registration dropped. But Kanye summed up the feelings of many appalled Americans when he said, "George Bush doesn't care about Black people" on the air. (Photo: Courtesy NBC)

The Evolution of Kanye West - Reeling after the death of his mother and his split from fianc?e Alexis Phifer, Kanye camped in Hawaii to record his fourth album, 808s and Heartbreak. The album was a huge left turn for Kanye, veering toward electronica and techno, and featuring mostly Auto-Tuned singing. Fans and critics were torn, but the album was hugely influential (we're looking at you, Drake). (Photo: Courtesy Def Jam Records)

The Best Rant of All Time - Kanye even had the president calling him a "jackass" after he interrupted Taylor Swift's acceptance speech for Best Female Video at the 2009 VMAs to insist that Beyonce's "single ladies" is "the best video of all time." Exaggerate much, Kanye? (Photo by Christopher Polk/Getty Images)

Kanye West, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy - The cover of Kanye West's 2010 opus My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy was a bizarre illustration by artist George Condo featuring a scowling Kanye West holding a bottle while being straddled by a naked, armless, winged female creature of some sort. West tweeted that some retailers had banned the cover, but a Wal-Mart spokesperson insisted that wasn't true. Later, a New Yorker article reported that Kanye had specifically sought an image that would be banned. Either way, alternate covers with tamer artwork were released as well.
