Cover Girls Beauty - Jennifer Hudson’s remarkably flawless face is the result of good genes, a great skin care regimen and a fabulous makeup artist by the name of Tia Dantzler. The makeup maven – who’s even painted the face of President Obama – generously detailed the steps and products that helped create J-Hud’s ethereal glow on some of the Academy Award winner’s most beautiful magazine covers.

Face Forward - Jennifer has a great skin care regimen that she sticks by. Jen does have a few discoloration issues with her skin, so I use a couple of shades of concealer. Before I apply any makeup, I make sure her skin is hydrated and it helps everything go on a lot smoother. I use a moisturizer called Dr. Hauschka Moisturizing Day Cream.

Stay Smooth - Putting on the moisturizer first helps you to protect the skin, especially during certain months. It meshes with the makeup and gives a greater appearance. You can’t get the flawless look without moisturizer.

Fresh Start - I also prime the skin with Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer. It’s great because it helps everything last. It gives the foundation something to hold on to - especially when she’s under cameras and hot lighting.

Come Clean - I’ve been working with her so long, I have tons of different techniques to put her foundation on. I’ve used Beauty Blender sponges, the foundation brush, my hand… I’ve used every method. The most important thing is to make sure your tools are clean. When your brushes are clean, the foundation goes on a lot smoother and truer to the actual color.

Photo Finish - I would say that her look can really be attributed to my technique versus one product. I don’t like to use a lot of Photoshop, I like to make it easy for everybody else coming behind me. I take my time and I carve and sculpt. I make sure it’s perfection when I finish. I also make sure I have great lighting so I can accentuate the features that I really want to accentuate.

A Clean Slate - Do some weekly scrubs on your skin. Have a smooth canvas. Especially in those areas that are known to build up and get a little drier. The scrub will definitely take that away. St. Ives Apricot Scrub has been my favorite since high school.

Glamorous Gaze - My favorite is Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel Eyeliner. My kit doesn’t survive without it. I use an angled brush and I like it because the product gives you time to correct before it dries. It’s waterproof and it stays on all day.

Bright -Eyed - Eyeliner shapes the eyes and gives it definition. One reason we use it is because Jennifer has really thin lashes. The liner brings you to her eyes.

Pucker Up - For luscious, full lips, make sure to have a lip liner that’s one to two shades darker than your skin tone. It does wonders for making them appear a little smaller. Play with color. If you want to rock a red lipstick, try a cream lipstick that will give you a little bit of shine as opposed to using a full on lip gloss.
