Obama's Biggest 2010 Wins

Take a look back at some of the president's top victories while in office.

Health Care Overhaul - Following a fierce battle with Republicans, one of President Obama’s most historic wins was the passing of health care overhaul in March of this year. The law – the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act – aims to extend affordable health care for all citizens, while beefing up consumer protections (for example, putting an end to companies denying coverage of children based on pre-existing conditions). Many provisions under the new legislation kicked in September 23.

Tax Cuts - A few different tax cuts were incorporated in the health care legislation, including the largest health care tax cut in history for middle class families. In addition, the Small Business Health Care Tax Credit can take care of up to 35 percent of the premiums a small business would pay for its workers. Also, the Recovery Act allows for more tax credits, resulting in the average tax refund going up by 10 percent this year.

Wall Street Reform - In the wake of the recession, which saw the devastating fall of a few of the nation’s top financial institutions, the president signed the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act this summer. The legislation, the biggest of its kind since the Great Depression, will end tax-payer funded bailouts in addition to enforcing consumer protections.
