Mandela Mourns - Legendary South African leader Nelson Mandela made a rare public appearance Thursday to attend the funeral of his great-granddaughter Zenani, killed in a car crash last week following the World Cup concert. A family friend, who was allegedly drunk at the time of the accident, was driving the car.

Somber Mood - The 91-year-old icon appeared somber and frail as he emerged from the car. He then boarded a golf cart with wife Graca Machel and was taken to the chapel of the Johannesburg private school Zenani had attended.

Memorial Service - The funeral service lasted three hours and featured, pop songs, hymns, a Maya Angelou poem, a troupe of dancers and a video taped tribute from super model Naomi Campbell. Attendees brightened up their somber, dark clothes with pink accents, an ode to Zenani’s favorite color.

Full Attendance - The service was open to the public, and hundreds of people were at the chapel in attendance. An overflow crowd filled a tent outside.

During the Service - Mandela sat in the first pew of the chapel during the service. He was generally somber, but did smile during some lighter moments of the service.

Classmates Say Goodbye - Wearing their school blazers and carrying a white rose, Zezani’s classmates, stood and sang “Amazing Grace” with other mourners at the beginning of the funeral before a montage of family portraits, including one of Zenani hugging Mandela, was projected on screens as a recording of "Lean on Me" played.
