Coming From Where I'm From - Ross started writing raps about drugs and criminal activities he used to see growing up. Although he worked as a corrections officer, he couldn’t get enough of the hip-hop lifestyle. Finally, he adopted the name Rick Ross from stories he heard in childhood about a notable drug trafficker. Ross made his mark on Def Squad Presents Erick Sermon and was featured on a track called "Ain’t Shhh to Discuss." After that, Ross signed to independent Southern rap label Suave House Records and later connected with the Slip-N-Slide label, which released music by Miami artists Trick Daddy and Trina.
