5 Years Probation - Chris Brown will not be going to jail for beating up Rihanna. A judge has sentenced Brown to five years of probation and six months of community labor. Brown will do his labor in his home state of Virginia.

Busted - Antwon Tanner will still be in at least the first several episodes of "One Tree Hill" even though he pleaded guilty to a Social Security number scheme. Tanner admitted that he sold more than a dozen Social Security numbers for $10,000. He's expected to be sentenced to as much as a year in prison on Nov. 20. A spokesman for the CW says he doesn't know what will happen with Tanner's character after his sentence.

NFL History - Tennis pros Serena and Venus Williams have made history again. But, this time we’re not talking tennis. According to NFL sources, the sisters have become the first African-American female partial-owners of the Miami Dolphins. The Williams sisters join Marc Anthony and Gloria Estefan, who also share ownership in the team.

Word of Advice - New York City's first Black mayor says Gov. David Paterson should be more careful when talking about racial issues. Paterson has said the media is exploiting stereotypes in their coverage of him, President Obama and Mass. Gov. Patrick. Paterson says he didn't accuse the media of being racist, just unfair. Former mayor David Dinkins tells the New York Times that Paterson "should get off the racist thing." He says, "right or wrong, it's a fight you sure can't win."

Rapper's Revenge - Years after retiring from the stage, the first queen of hip hop has cashed in on royalties to pay for an Ivy League Ph.D. Dr. Roxanne Shante, the '80s rap icon who scored the smash hit, "Roxanne's Revenge" in 1984, at the age of 14, now holds a doctorate in psychology and is a therapist focused on African-American issues.

She Wants Her Cut - One of the people trying to get money from Michael Jackson's estate is the woman from "Thriller." Ola Ray's attorney filed papers saying she's owed royalties from the “Thriller” video for the past four years. Ray had sued Jackson over the royalties last April.

Death Ruled Homicide - Michael Jackson's death has been ruled a homicide. That means it's more likely that criminal charges will be filed against the doctor who was with Jackson when he died. A law enforcement official tells The Associated Press the coroner has determined that a fatal combination of drugs was given to Jackson hours before he died in June.

Fewer Advertisers - Glenn Beck is back from vacation with fewer advertisers because he called President Obama a racist. A total of 33 sponsors, including Wal-Mart, CVS, Clorox and Sprint told Fox they'd no longer advertise during Beck's show. The conservative Fox News host said last month that Obama was a racist with a "deep-seated hatred for White people."

Offensive Ad - Microsoft apologized Tuesday for using photo editing techniques to change the race of a person depicted on the company's Web site. In a photo on the company's site, three businesspeople--one Black, one White and one Asian are shown as part of a pitch for Microsoft's business productivity software. In the same photo on the site of Microsoft's Polish subsidiary, a White head is placed over the Black person's body, although the hand is not changed.

Bribery Charges - Mose Jefferson, the older brother of the former U.S. Rep. William Jefferson who was convicted two weeks ago of abusing his congressional office to enrich himself and his family, has been convicted by a federal jury on four charges that he bribed an Orleans Parish School Board member. Jefferson, 66, was charged with paying $140,000 in kickbacks to former school board president Ellenese Brooks-Simms for her support in awarding school contracts to a computer-based teaching system he sold.

Custody Fight - David Alan Grier is fighting with his estranged wife for shared custody of their one-year-old daughter. People.com reports that the 54-year-old "In Living Color" star, in papers filed in Los Angeles, also asked the court to deny spousal support for his wife. Last month, Christine Kim filed for divorce from Grier, citing irreconcilable difference. Along with a request for spousal support, Kim is also seeking sole custody of the little girl, Luisa, with visitation rights for Grier.

Kennedy Dies - Sen. Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts, the last surviving son of a political dynasty, died overnight Tuesday. He was 77. His legislative achievements included bills to provide health insurance for children of the working poor, the landmark Americans with Disabilities Act, Meals on Wheels for the elderly and abortion clinic access.

Obama Expresses Sorrow - President Obama is calling Sen. Ted Kennedy "the greatest United States senator of our time." A senior administration official says Obama spoke with the senator's widow shortly after learning of his death. Obama says with Kennedy's death, "An important chapter in our history has come to an end."

‘One In A Million’ - It is hard to believe that it has been eight years since the world lost the beautiful, passionate and multi-talented soul that is Aaliyah. In 2001, Aaliyah and eight others died in a plane crash shortly after take-off in the Bahamas. The singer and actress was 22 years old.

Man of 'Peace' - Aaron S. Williams will become the 18th Director of the Peace Corps and only the second African American to hold the top spot. Williams was sworn in Monday as the director of an agency where he once served as a volunteer.

Lesbian Mayor To Marry - Openly lesbian Cambridge, Massachusetts Mayor E. Denise Simmons will marry her longtime partner Mattie B. Hayes Sunday, August 30. The couple is set to exchange vows at the historic St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, which has been serving Cambridge’s African-American community for more than 100 years.

10 More Years - C-Murder got 10 more years tacked on to his life sentence. He got the extra time for firing into a nightclub after an argument. C-Murder had pleaded no contest to a charge that he tried to shoot the nightclub owner and bouncer after he refused to be searched. He got the life sentence for shooting a 16-year-old to death.

Burial Postponed - Michael Jackson won't be laid to rest on what would have been his 51st birthday after all. A spokesman for the Jackson family says the funeral has been postponed until Sept. 3, five days after the singer's birthday. Jackson will now be interred in The Great Mausoleum at Forest Lawn-Glendale at a private evening ceremony.

Chance at New Life - CNN reports that one of the teens in the "Jena Six" case is now an intern at a New York law firm as he prepares for his senior year next month at Canterbury School, a Connecticut prep academy. Jesse Ray Beard, now 18, the CNN report says, is highly regarded among peers and teachers.

Whitney Wait is Over - Whitney Houston's highly-anticipated album, "I Look To You," hits stores shelves on Monday, Aug. 31. As BET.com previously reported, Houston is due to perform on ABC's "Good Morning America's" concert series on Sept. 2.
