Dr. J - It all started back in 1976 when the American Basketball Association (ABA) held the first ever Slam Dunk contest during their All-Star game. Dr. J (Julius Erving) won this one with a series of impressive dunks including jumping from the foul line to throw it down.

Dominique Wilkins - In what would be the first in a series of heated slam dunk battles, the Atlanta Hawks’ Dominique Wilkins beat out newcomer Michael Jordan of the Chicago Bulls with a two handed windmill dunk in 1985. He would win the 1990 Slam Dunk contest as well.

Spud Webb - Awww. Standing at only 5-feet-7-inches, Spud Webb of the Atlanta Hawks shocked his teammate and reigning Slam Dunk Contest Champ Dominique Wilkins when he beat him out for the title in 1986.

Michael Jordan - Michael Jordan won back-to-back Slam Dunk contests in 1987 and 1988. His showdown with Dominique Wilkins in 1988 is probably the most notable matchup, though, with His Airness taking off from the freethrow line to put down the dunk and seal the title.
