"We are headed in the right direction," he said. "We're not headed there fast enough for a lot of Americans. We're not headed there fast enough for me, either." The unemployment rate dropped to 9.5 percent and hiring in the private sector has gone up.

McChrystal Resigns, Replaced with Gen. Petraeus - After a hectic week, where it was revealed that Gen. Stanley McChrystal, top U.S. commander in Afghanistan, criticized Obama during an interview with Rolling Stone, McChrystal submitted his resignation Wednesday. Obama replaced him with Gen. David Petraeus, who was formerly the head of U.S. Central Command.

Talking to Military Heads - On Monday, the president held a conference call with General David Petraeus and Ambassador Karl Eikenberry. After congratulating Petraeus on being recently appointed Commander of U.S. Forces Afghanistan, Obama expressed his appreciation for their sacrifice.

Bilateral Meetings - On Wednesday, the president will hold bilateral meetings and dine with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Egypt’s President Hosni Mubarak and Jordan’s King Abdullah II. The group is also scheduled to meet with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton the following day.

Meeting with Netanyahu - On Tuesday, following his daily briefings, the president will meet with Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the Oval Office. Afterwards the two leaders will hold a joint press availability. The meeting is another attempt to encourage Israel to participate in direct talks with Palestine. The president will meet with Secretary of Defense Robert Gates in the afternoon.

Welcoming Israel’s First Lady - Mrs. Obama will welcome Israel’s First Lady, Mrs. Sara Netanyahu, to the White House for tea Tuesday afternoon. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is in D.C. Tuesday meeting with the president.

Agency Visit - First Lady Michelle Obama will continue her tour of federal agencies with a visit to the Department of Justice on Wednesday. She will be joined by Attorney General Eric Holder and will thank employees for their efforts.

Main Street Tour - President Obama will resume his White House to Main Street tour on Tuesday with a visit to Iowa. While in the state, he’ll tour Siemens Energy Inc Facility in Fort Madison and will make another stop in Mt. Pleasant. The president will hold a town hall meeting later in the afternoon at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa.

Kansas City and Las Vegas - Obama will head out to Kansas City, Mo. and Las Vegas, NV on Thursday and Friday. In Kansas City, he’s scheduled to tour the facilities of Smith Electric Vehicles before delivering remarks to workers on the economy. He’ll also attend campaign events in the city for Robin Carnahan, Missouri’s current Secretary of State, before heading to Las Vegas to headline a campaign event for Majority Leader Harry Reid.

Chefs Move! - On Friday afternoon, hundreds of chefs involved with the "Chefs Move to Schools" program will join Mrs. Obama for a ceremony on the White House’s South Lawn. The program will pair chefs with schools in their communities to create healthy meals that also fit the schools' budgets. Together, they will also teach students about nutrition.

NAACP Convention - This weekend, Mrs. Obama will headline the NAACP Convention in Kansas City.
