Her Mother: Shyamala Gopalan Harris - Although she passed away in 2009, we are sure that Kamala’s mom Shyamala Gopalan Harris is very proud of her recent accomplishments. Kamala has often credited her mother for instilling her with important life values that she continues to use in her political career. “My mother used to say, don’t sit around and complain about things, do something,” she shared with over 20,000 supporters at her kick-off rally in Oakland. The Indian-American biomedical scientist, often reminded her daughter: “You may be the first to do many things, but make sure you’re not the last.”  Kamala Harris

Her Sister: Maya Harris  - Maya Harris has been very supportive of her sister’s achievements! In fact, the busy lawyer, public policy advocate, and television commentator dedicated some serious hours to her big sister’s campaign.“I think most people who know Maya will tell you she’s one of the smartest people they know,” Kamala recently told Politico. “The fact that she has volunteered to work on this campaign at such a high level and she’s exactly who she’s always been—she works around the clock and she’s probably the hardest, if not one of the hardest working people on the campaign—I feel very blessed.” Kamala Harris
