Older Blacks Hit Especially Hard by Recession - Black Americans over 45 seem to be suffering the most from the recession, according to a report from the AARP. Of those surveyed, 31 percent of older Blacks have had to decrease their medicine supply to save money, and 50 percent have had to postpone vacations. In addition, the unemployment rate for older Blacks sits at 18 percent, eight points above the national average.
