Before Cardi B became a hip-hop artist, reality TV star or a social media personality, she was just a "regular, degular, shmegular" girl from the Bronx, New York. Prior to fame, Cardi B, also known as Belcalis Almanzar, worked as an exotic dancer to make ends meet. During that time, she went back to school and built a social media following by recording humorous videos on Instagram. In 2015, Cardi's popularity earned her a regular spot on VH1's Love and Hip Hop: New York. After the success of her mixtape, Gangsta B***h Music, Vol. 1, and signing a record deal with Atlantic Records, Cardi B announced she would be leaving Love and Hip Hop to focus on her music. Since then, Cardi has released two more projects and numerous singles. Her breakout hit, "Bodak Yellow," was No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for three consecutive weeks and won the Single of the Year Award at the 2017 BET Hip Hop Awards. Cardi B recently got engaged to Offset, who is one third of the hip-hop group Migos.
