R. Kelly Banned Questions About This One Person In His Gayle King Interview...

Kelly refused to answer any inquiries concerning one of the most major controversies of his career.

You may think you learned all there is to know about R. Kelly’s berserk CBS This Morning interview with Gayle King after witnessing him erupt into a fit of tearful fury and fervid denial.

But after reading King’s New York Times interview, you’d be wrong.

In the feature, titled “How Gayle King Kept Her Cool in the R. Kelly Interview,” King answers some of the most anticipated questions about her innermost thoughts and feelings from her seat below a hysterical, chest-pounding R. Kelly, who jumped from his chair in a rage during their conversation. The CBS co-anchor was praised for how well she not only conducted the interview under such hostile circumstances, but also for how gracefully she maintained her composure.

King revealed to the New York Times how the interview came about, her reaction to the defenses of Azriel Clary and Joycelyn Savage and the conversation with her colleagues post-interview, among other topics. But there was one subject matter that the 52-year-old kept off-limits, even for King: his relationship and controversy with R&B’s dear fallen angel Aaliyah.

  • According to King, ‘they didn’t want any questions about Aaliyah’…

... but she was fine with that, she revealed in the NY Times feature. “I feel we have heard the Aaliyah story,” she said. “Really, this interview was about R. Kelly’s reaction to the Surviving R. Kelly documentary and the latest charges, and they said he cannot discuss the latest charges because those are still in court.” King said she was content with the amount of information they got from him, anyway.

  • She added elsewhere in the interview that the public is also well aware of his history with Baby Girl

King believes he didn’t help himself by denying ever having sex with an underage girl, either, she said in the interview, especially because she thinks “99.9 percent of people who have been following this story believe that he was married and had sex with Aaliyah, she was certainly underage.”

Among other things, there’s also existing interviews from women who revealed sexual relationships with Kelly when they were underage, too, she said. King acknowledged that she knew he’d deny that. “Listen, I knew going into it he was going to deny,” she said. “I expected that. I didn’t expect him to say that he had done nothing wrong. But there was no sign of acknowledgment or contrition about anything.”
