Petitioners Want Iggy Azalea to Return Billboard Music Award

"Fancy" rapper won Top Rap Song and Top Rap Artist.

Billboard apparently has some explaining to do, if the uproar about Iggy Azalea's recent win is anything to go by.

A Change.com petition was created after the Aussie won the trophy for Top Rap Song for her hit "Fancy" at this year's awards. It claims that the elegibility period for the show's nominations began after the song debuted, making it ineligible to be considered.

"Iggy Azalea's 2015 Billboard Award for Best Song has been proven invalid," it reads. "The eligibility time period for nominations is March 10th, 2014 through March 2015. 'Fancy' was released on February 17th, 2014, nearly a month before the elibigility starting."

Other nominees in the category were said to be cheated after fans felt one of them, in particular, was more deserving of the award. "This is unfair to the other nominees in these category [sic], especially to 'Anaconda' by Nicki Minaj, who most likely would've won. Billboard did not follow their own guidelines and should have recalculate [sic] these nominations without 'Fancy' as a nominee."

Within 24 hours of its creation, the petition quickly raked up more than 5,000 signatutes. To date, now six days since it was made, it has amassed more than 12,500 signatures.

The "Pretty Girls" rapper has faced controversy over her popularity as a rapper before. Many considerd Nicki's "no shade" dig at the 2014 BET Awards to be directed at her. The two are up against each other again for Best Female Hip Hop Artist at this year's ceremony.

Billboard has not yet responded to the claims made against their decision.
