The Republican National Convention got off to a very strange start when the night's main speaker, Donald Trump's wife, Melania Trump, appeared to explicitly plagiarize Michelle Obama's Democratic Convention Speech from 2008.

The plagiarism has gone viral with thousands of people reacting to the ridiculous oversight by Trump's speech writers, the campaign, and the candidate himself. Unsurprisingly, the Trump campaign is dodging the blame, and instead pointing the finger at Hillary Clinton.

"There is a political thing to this whole issue," campaign manager Paul Manafort told reporters. "The Clinton camp was the first to get it out there." This was said despite the fact that there is no indication that Clinton's campaign was responsible for the thousands of people that posted about the similarities.

Trump's communication adviser, Jason Miller, sent out a statement denying that the people who are truly responsible for the embarrassing gaffe is the Trump camp itself. "In writing her beautiful speech, Melania's team of writers took notes on her life’s inspirations, and in some instances included fragments that reflected her own thinking,” he said in a statement. “Melania’s immigrant experience and love for America shone through in her speech, which made it such a success."

Manafort tried to sweep the whole incident under the rug, as well, saying that people are concentrating on some "50 words" in the speech and "totally ignoring" the message of the speech itself. "Her speech was one of the highlights — if not the highlight — of the convention yesterday," Manafort said.

The irony only increases what the words are actually preaching, as Mrs. Obama's words were focused on value, morality and hard work. "And Barack and I were raised with so many of the same values: that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say you're going to do."

The first night of the RNC was surely a strange one, with relative unknowns taking the stage to praise Trump, as many of the celebrity Republicans, and classic leaders of the party itself, including its last three presidential candidates, were not in attendance. But Melania plagiarizing from our first lady was surely the strangest aspect of the whole night.
