Drake Joins Backstreet Boys In Surprise Stage Appearance
Drake surprised fans at a Backstreet Boys concert on Saturday night (July 2) in his hometown of Toronto, Canada. The rapper stepped on the stage to join the 90s boy band in a performance of their hit song “I Want It That Way.”
Before singing the first note, Drake explained why the song has a special place in his heart.
"At 13 years old, I had a bar mitzvah, and at my bar mitzvah, for the first time in my life, this girl I was in love with came up to me while one of the greatest songs in the world was playing, and she asked me if I would dance with her," PEOPLE quoted Drake.
"It was the first time I ever felt acknowledged, and it was the first time I ever felt like, you know, I had a shot at being cool,” he added.
The Backstreet Boys consists of members Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell, AJ McLean and Kevin Richardson. They introduced Drake as the “sixth member” of the band when he walked out on stage. A video clip of their performance is below.
Toronto was the latest stop on the group’s DNA World Tour, which will see them perform in 83 cities through March 2023, according to Entertainment Tonight. The tour originally began in 2019 but was temporarily suspended because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
