Orange Is the New Black star Michelle Hurst was in a coma, TMZ reports. The actress, who suffered a terrible car accident over the holidays, was placed in a medically-induced coma for 16 days so that doctors could perform surgeries close to her spine.
Hurst, who plays Miss Claudette in the Netflix series, has reportedly regained consciousness but remains in the ICU at a hospital in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. 
The cast members from the ensemble dramedy have all taken to Twitter to help raise money for Hurst's medical expenses. "Please give what you can to help Michelle Hurst — the amazing actress who plays Ms. Claudette," tweeted Natasha Lyonne.
No word on what caused the accident or when — or if — Hurst will be able to return to work.
