Rihanna's Snapchat Criticism Cost The Company Close To $1 Billion

The pop star's words hold significant power.

Rihanna's proven this week that her impact can only be matched by very few as her recent denouncing of Snapchat played a significant part in the company's plummeted stock.

This all started when, at the top of the week, Snapchat users noticed the app was running an ad that oddly poked fun at Rihanna's domestic abuse at the hands of her ex-boyfriend, Chris Brown

While reps from the app apologized for the ad on Tuesday, after receiving major backlash, Rihanna, herself, made it clear that their words still failed to cover the damage their initial fault had caused.

In a statement posted to her Instagram Story, she simply wrote, "Throw the who app-oligy away," and it seemed as fans of the app did more than just that as mere hours after her post went live, the app's stock began to fall — hard. CNN reported that, as of Friday morning, Snap Inc. lost $800 million and is on track to suffing a billion-dollar loss.
