Soul Train Awards 2022: The Rémy Martin Cocktail That’s a Must-Try
t’s 5:00 p.m. somewhere around the world, right?
Imagine curling up on the couch, listening to Mary J. Blige’s latest album, hearing her soulful voice resound with “Good Morning Gorgeous,” as you take a sip of a cocktail that’s bursting with lingering flavors and the sweet taste of Rémy Martin 1738 Accord Royal cognac.
That’s why BET is teaming up with Rémy Martin as part of the 2022 Soul Train Music Awards experience. Award-winning Bartender and Cocktail Experience Curator Josh Davis is the founder of Brown & Balanced, an organization that celebrates Black bar and hospitality professionals. Davis regularly dips into his library of iconic cocktails at the 16th Street bar on the southside of Chicago in honor of this year's awards ceremony.
The House of Rémy Martin is iconic, not just for its renowned tasting cognac but its rich history. The company started from humble beginnings when Rémy Martin, a winegrower in France began selling under his own name. Then in 1738, King Louis XV of France granted Rémy Martin the right to plant new vines in recognition of his cognacs, and in no time became renowned across the globe, introduced to the world as 1738 Accord Royal.
Davis conjures up The Rémy Uptown, a sultry, sexier version of the Sidebar cocktail with a tropical flair. Davis introduces the mixtures of passion fruit puree, fresh squeezed lemon juice, and Cointreau liqueur and “the star of the show, the one everyone came to see,” Rémy Martin 1738 cognac. And for the finishing touch, a simple, lemon twist.
The freshness of this sweet and sour cocktail is an ode to what makes R&B and Soul music unforgettable just like artists Ari Lennox, and Coco Jones, who are a part of the 2022 Soul Train Awards show. The Rémy Uptown will not only make your day better, it will elevate and transport you to a different destination.
