Florida prosecutors plan to argue Monday that Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold should remain jailed without bail until his trial on felony armed robbery and kidnapping charges.

Arnold made a brief court appearance via video on Thursday in Tampa, Florida, where a judge officially read the charges of kidnapping, armed robbery, and conspiracy against him. The 23-year-old defensive back surrendered to authorities on Wednesday night and was ordered held without bond ahead of the formal pretrial detention hearing on Monday morning. If convicted, the charges carry a maximum sentence of life in prison.

The legal trouble stems from a February incident. Investigators allege that Arnold orchestrated a plot to detain and pistol-whip three individuals under the impression that they had stolen items from him. Police reported that personal property valued at over $250,000 was stolen on Feb. 1 from an Airbnb rental in Largo, Florida, where Arnold and others were staying.

Three days later, on Feb. 4, three teenagers were held at gunpoint, assaulted, and robbed at a Tampa apartment. Law enforcement officials later determined the victims had no connection to the initial theft. Authorities labeled Arnold the primary conspirator in the retaliation.

According to police records, acquaintances of the football player lured the teenagers to the apartment, held them at gunpoint, and filmed the assault. Investigators stated that Arnold issued directives through a group chat during the incident and subsequently arrived at the location in person.

Defense attorney R. Timothy Jansen stated in court Thursday that his client denies the allegations. Denise White, the CEO of EAG Sports Management, the agency representing Arnold, released a statement asserting that no credible evidence connects the cornerback to the crime. White argued that prosecutors are relying heavily on the testimony of multiple convicted felons who have incentives to deflect blame to reduce their own prison sentences.

State Attorney Suzy Lopez emphasized that citizens cannot take enforcement into their own hands, noting that a dispute over stolen items never justifies violence or kidnapping. At least seven individuals face charges in connection with the case. Two co-defendants entered guilty pleas on Wednesday and are cooperating with the state, including one individual who received a four-year prison sentence.

Arnold was a first-round selection by Detroit in the 2024 NFL Draft out of the University of Alabama. He recorded 31 tackles and an interception during his rookie campaign before undergoing shoulder surgery at the end of the year.
